I joined Liberty HealthShare℠, when our family were looking for alternatives to the current health insurance system. Although a ministry of the mennonite church, this was the only one I could find that didn't require you to declare your beliefs (as I believe healthcare should be for everyone: believer, agnostic and atheist alike). We are a family of 6 and pay $450 per month with a $1500 per year deductible. They cover up to $1million per person, per incident. It might be a good healthcare option in the transition to building our UBUNTU communities. Here is their philosophy...
"Our members come together to share medical bills because we believe it's the right thing to do. We don't participate because it's convenient, or less expensive than traditional insurance. We do it because our moral, ethical, and religious values compel us to care for and support each other during times of crisis. These beliefs mobilize our actions, and we relate to each other in community because of them.
We believe that our personal rights and liberties originate from God and are bestowed on us by God, and are not concessions granted to us by governments or men.
We believe every individual has a fundamental religious right to worship the God of the Bible in his or her own way. We believe it is our biblical and ethical obligation to assist our fellow man when they are in need according to our available resources and opportunity. We believe it is our spiritual duty to God and our ethical duty to others to maintain a healthy lifestyle and avoid foods, behaviors or habits that produce sickness or disease. We believe it is our fundamental right of conscience to direct our own healthcare, in consultation with physicians, family or other valued advisors, free from government dictates, restraints and oversight.
These beliefs form the moral, spiritual and ethical basis for our interaction and relationship as a community. We make a somber and significant pledge to one another that we will aid, support and devote our resources to one another in this most personal area of our life: our healthcare!"
Lilskyfarm Thank you sooooo much for sharing this information. I am in need of health ins and it has been too costly for me. I am relatively healthy and use many alternative healing sources, but hate that we get penalized by our gov for NOT being covered. BTW Costa Rica has very excellent healthcare, especially dentistry at a third of the cost you would get charged I the US. My husband and I plan to go down in the fall for treatment. Check out BIOdental in Costa Rica for any of you with needs in this area.
