Lisa Harrison and Dani McKenney revealed a very interesting piece of information from the Bible in their 7 June 2016 discussion this week. I wanted to share this from about 3:11 in the discussion they allude to the fact that Exodus 34:19 from the bible mentions the word matrix. And it does indeed.
I referenced the King James 1611 Version which is written in olde english. My version was published in 2010 and in Exodus 34:19 it says as plain as day the following: "All that openeth the matrixe is mine and every firstling amongst thy cattell whether oxe or sheep that is male"" . The online KJV Version http://kingjamesbibleonline.org/… confirms the passage as referencing the matrix.
Now get this, in the New International Version Study Bible, published by Zondervan in 1985, makes no mention of the matrix at all and says in Exodus 34:19, "The first offspring of every womb belongs to me including all the firstborn males of your livestock whether from herd or flock"".
In digging some more on this enigmatic word, i found an interesting etymology: matrix (n.) late 14c., "uterus, womb," from Old French matrice "womb, uterus," from Latin matrix (genitive matricis) "pregnant animal," in Late Latin "womb," also "source, origin," from mater (genitive matris) "mother" (see mother (n.1)). Sense of "place or medium where something is developed" is first recorded 1550s; sense of "embedding or enclosing mass" first recorded 1640s. Logical sense of "array of possible combinations of truth-values" is attested from 1914. As a verb from 1951. Cheers
