ForestFawn If we can find an already established small town that has lots of room for growth in the Northwest where most or all of the people living in the town know about the Ubuntu movement, and are willing to begin taking the first steps toward transitioning into a contribution/money-less society, then I think we will move very quickly from there. It will clearly attract many members on this website who I think are ready to slide right into something like that. At this point, however, we are basically trying to start from scratch. I only know of two landowners who are willing to start communities, and their properties are fairly small. For example, I have visited a place in Washington where a man and his wife have 10 acres and have worked for 6 years to convert part of their acreage into a small farm. There are two large greenhouses (permaculture and aquaponics), an underground storage cellar, an area for chickens, ducks and goats, fruit trees, and they've installed some solar energy panels, etc. They are looking to find others who want to come live/work there in a small community setting (not necessarily Ubuntu related). Their place would nicely fulfill the very first steps needed to get started, but more housing is necessary; roads would need to be put in, land excavated and leveled, wells drilled, septic systems installed, etc., and 10 acres is great for one or two other families, but not near enough to start an Ubuntu community without the neighbors buying into it as well. So there's lots of initial planning and organizing needed, as well as marketing to spread the word about Ubuntu! If we can get minds together and ideas rolling, I think we could be on our way to manifesting our first Northwest Ubuntu community!

Anan Hello I'm new to the Ubuntu community as of today and have already listened to most of the recordings. I live in Port Townsend, WA state in the Pacific Northwest. It's a very progressive small town but I haven't heard of the Ubuntu movement here yet. I'm very interested in making this a reality. Does anyone know where I can find if Michael has actually started a community somewhere? The latest news seems to be from October... Thank you Anan

Cris Hi Anan! I love the Peninsula area, and have thougtht a community somewhere around Port Townsend/Port Angeles would be amazing. Interest seems to drop off once reality hits, but I think many people would be interested in getting together and talking about possibilities. Let me know if you would like to meet sometime just to talk.
